Squonk Squonk!

The past week, I saw this awesome "Opera" named "Squonk Opera". Ah, what a show! Squonk takes a radically new approach with the traditional Opera - no crazy singing in an uncomprehending language, no gaudy bizzare singers, no non-sense. (This is not to say I dislike traditional Operas - I love 'em!)

Instead of the traditional approach and concentrating on a theme like a romantic tragedy or something else, Sqounk concentrates on the town they are performing in. They interview real people, learn their stories, research the history of the town. For example, the show I saw here in College Park was based entirely on College Park - it's history, stories from real people, the University of Maryland, etc. Then they project the videos on the screens and combine Opera-style singing with rock-style music! This Opera is like a fresh breath of cool breeze. They totally blew the audience away. If you get to hear this show is playing in or around your town, do not miss it! It is totally worth it.
